Opening Kinetic Sand
Kinetic Sand: slice, squish and stamp
A moulded block of soft, layered sand. Cut it and thin slabs flop over, press it and it keeps your print, squish it and it spreads and cracks, then mould a fresh block and start again.
How to play
- Knife: swipe across the block to slice it.
- Finger: tap for a print, hold to press deeper, drag to plough a groove.
- Spoon: drag to scoop, and the spoonful drops as damp clumps.
- Squish: hold to flatten the block under your palm.
- Stamp: press a star, heart, flower or shell; press Stamp again for the next shape.
- Two fingers turn the tray. On a keyboard, 1 to 5 pick the tools.
Questions
- Do the coloured layers stay in place?
- Yes. Every bit of sand remembers which layer it came from, so slices, scoops and stamps show clean stripes of colour.
- Is Kinetic Sand free?
- Yes. Kinetic Sand is free to play in your browser, with no ads, no sign-up and nothing to buy.
- Does Kinetic Sand work on a phone?
- Yes. It works with touch on phones and tablets and with a mouse or trackpad on a computer, in any recent browser with WebGL 2.
